Company Background

Founded in 1988 to exclusively market, sell and distribute Corrosion Resistant Alloys (CRA) Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG) at a time when the oil and gas industry was suffering from an all time low activity level. Market conditions dictated that new service companies must have a jump start to be successful. This meant that in addition to providing excellent service and quality products a new company must be recognized as reliable, credible, and dependable.

John Gandy utilized his strongest assets to jump start John Gandy Corporation. Those assets were 30 years experience, personal reputation and a respected name that was already well known through out the oil and gas industry. The industry accepted the endorsement and the company enjoyed success during its first business year.

JGC’s beginning role was as a buyer and seller of new and used surplus CRA OCTG. Used tubulars were reclaimed through inspection to new specification, cleaned up and new threads applied for reuse downhole. Success in this role quickly led to JGC’s recognition as the only specialized USA distributor for CRA OCTG. This recognition developed into several distributorships representing multiple CRA OCTG pipe mills.

In 1996, JGC became the only CRA marketing and distribution company to acquire and apply a computer program specifically designed to select the most economical CRA grade tubulars suitable for specific downhole production applications. To compliment the program JGC developed a proprietary string design program utilizing API design parameters to accurately select weight, wall thickness, yield and tensile strengths for pipe body and threaded connections.

In 1997 JGC aggressively addressed the tubular needs for hazardous waste injection disposal wells. Disposal wells are normally shallow with lower temperature and pressure than oil and gas wells; however extremely corrosive and hazardous. JGC modified its oil and gas computer programs. The modification offered the ability to identify the most economical heavy wall low yield CRA tubular for downhole environmentally safe containment of non-production chemicals.

In 1998 JGC designed and developed the (JGC 2012 Galvanic Corrosion Protection System). This unique and proprietary system provides an economical and trustworthy method for connecting two dissimilar metal tubulars together for downhole use in hazardous waste disposal wells while eliminating the occurrence of galvanic corrosion. This ability can reduce tubular cost by 50% or more.

In 1999 JGC developed Ultra Flow and Ultra Slick-13 proprietary method designed to increase production flow of full length carbon drill pipe and 13/15 chrome downhole tubing. The method lowers the average roughness of ID from 250/300 to 20/60 and increased flow rates up to 35% with the actual flow rates dependent on pressure and ID size.

In 2001 JGC developed and today continues to advance Super Seamless a proprietary cold worked high strength 5-1/2” through 9-7/8” OD CRA tubulars for downhole and light weight cryogenic applications for LNG transportation. The uniqueness of the tubular is that it can be competitively produced in long lengths with extremely tighter tolerances than the historically produced extruded and pierced seamless tubular in like sizes.

Since 2001 JGC has been eliminated from the CRA distribution as a result of multiple CRA tubular mill mergers, mill and distributor acquisitions or new marketing alignments. Available CRA tubular marketing channels have been dramatically reduced and price and availability is controlled by a few.

JGC’s direction today is exclusively dedicated to the development of new methods for economical manufacture of CRA tubulars. Priorities are the further development of Super Seamless and the introduction of a new and alternate source for quality 2-3/8” through 5” OD seamless CRA tubing. Super Duplex (Zeron 100) will be the first grade introduced and is expected to be in the market place by early to mid 2007.
